Last night, we discussed over whiskey the possibility that these two drivers were trying to scam us for cash. While all these thoughts were running through my head, I took a couple of photos outside the window to post as soon I get a signal. If we get abandoned in the wild, maybe our friends and family could use these as a cue to find us. But I never got the signal...

This was only the fourth day of our trip, and we have 5 more days to go...

James explained the off-road was a short-cut to avoid the 3-4 hour cue line at the province border check. This highway was the only connecting road between Qinghai and Xinjiang, a high traffic highway for trucks. He pointed toward the far horizon, trucks were lining up on highway, like a row of ants.

The silence in the car was uncomfortable as we headed into the unknown. Besides a few very skinny cows, there was no sign of a human being. I checked my cell again, there was definitely no reception, and we were getting farther and farther away from the main road.

Thoughts started running in my head, we are four mid-age women, I was the only one who works out sometimes. Could all four of us take him down in the time of need? Could we restrain him and take his car?
